Temples of Haridwar
Haridwar's best-known temples sit on two hills, in the old town and in Kankhal. You can see the main ones in a day if you start early.

- Ropeways
- Run to both Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi
- Closest to the hotel

Mansa Devi
Mansa Devi stands on Bilwa Parvat, the hill above the old town. Devotees come to ask for a wish and tie a thread to the tree in the temple, returning to untie it when the wish is granted.
A ropeway carries you up in a few minutes. You can also walk up a steep path of roughly 1.5 km. The ropeway base is about 8.8 km from the hotel.
Chandi Devi
Chandi Devi is on Neel Parvat, on the far bank of the Ganga. A ropeway runs to the top, or you can walk about 3 km up from Chandi Ghat. The ropeway base is about 9.7 km from the hotel.
Combined ropeway tickets for Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi are often sold. Ask at the counter.
Maya Devi
Maya Devi is in the old town, a short walk from Har Ki Pauri. It is one of the oldest temples in Haridwar, and the town was once known as Mayapuri after the goddess. It is easy to combine with the evening aarti.
Daksheshwar Mahadev, Kankhal
This Shiva temple in Kankhal marks the place where, by tradition, King Daksha held the yajna at which Sati gave up her life. It is especially busy in the month of Shravan and on Mahashivratri. It is about 11.7 km from the hotel.
Bharat Mata Mandir
A multi-storey temple dedicated to Mother India, with each floor given to a different theme, from freedom fighters to saints and deities. It is in the Sapt Sarovar area, about 2.7 km from the hotel, which makes it an easy late-afternoon visit.
Good to know
- Ropeways can close for maintenance or in bad weather. Check before you set out.
- Monkeys on the hill paths will take food from your hands. Keep it in a closed bag.
- Carry small change for shoe stands and offerings.
